I don't think my sister and I have ever had a getaway alone. We have done the trips together as kids with our parents and then trips with our families as adults. So now that the kids are teens and the husbands can handle a couple of days without us, we decided to make the time.
Nobu Hotel Los Cabos hosted the writer and her guest for the purposes of this review. All opinions are her own.
I had the opportunity to review Nobu Hotel Los Cabos. I am on the East Coast so Cabo is not an easy trip for us. We have to fly through Houston. For those on the West Coast, it is a really easy trip. Us East Coasters typically do Cancun or Punta Cana, so it was nice to experience a Mexican location that was more mountainous and just had a totally different vibe to it.
I have been to Nobu before, and as a huge foodie, I love it, so the idea of a Nobu Hotel was mind-blowing. This is the resort for a foodie for sure. As I write this review my stomach still feels full from the delicious meals we experienced. I don't think I have ever been somewhere where every single bite was delish!
The drive to the hotel takes about 45 minutes from the airport. It is a very bumpy drive, so if you have motion sickness, just be prepared. The scenery is beautiful but it is bumpy!
Nobu Cabo: A Place of Beauty
Let's start with the Nobu Hotel Los Cabos property. It is gorgeous. Like breathtaking. It has a Zen feel to it with the cactus and modern architecture. You just feel at peace the moment you enter. It is very quiet and tranquil. There are gorgeous flowers as well throughout the property.
The pools on the property are the highlight. There are so many areas to select from to sit. They have nice beds set up in the water and around the water and cabanas you can sit in. They provide luxurious towels, fruit water, bottle water and suntan lotion. They all do food service to your seats. We liked to switch up our seats to enjoy different areas of the property. We spent time in the hot tub vs. the pool because, with the winds, it was chilly.
The beach is not swimmable and we did not see anyone down there. It was very windy which I got the feeling was typical of this area of Cabo. That would really be the bummer for me for this resort as I am a total beach girl and love to spend time on the sand and ocean.
I want to mention how clean this property is. I have traveled all over and this felt like the most spotless hotel I have experienced. They were washing the windows and floors every second. Our rooms were cleaned down daily to perfection. I was really impressed.
Our Home Away From Home
Speaking of our rooms. Our room at Nobu Hotel Los Cabos was fantastic. It is very large. The ocean view from the bed was just beautiful. The bathrooms are also very large and luxurious and the beds were fabulous and I was able to get 3 incredible nights of sleep which is a vacation in itself.
The service was 5-star at the resort. We were given a butler named Omar who we could text whenever we needed anything. The staff throughout the property, from the restaurants to the pool, was wonderful. They were super kind, helpful, and warm.
Our Meals From Heaven
Now onto the showstopper ... the food and drinks. This is truly the reason to go to Nobu Hotel Los Cabos. I could go into detail on every one of our meals but I am sure that will bore you. I will give you some tips on what you have to get!
Drinks at PlayaBar - The cocktails and mocktails are so beautiful and yummy.
Avocado Pizza at PlayaBar: This might be one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten! It is this thin, crispy dough with a layer of ricotta and jalapenos mixed, fresh avocado sliced all over and then a honey and olive oil drizzled on top.
Muffin at The Restaurant - Another super interesting item. This was a vegan apple muffin that had a side of apples and peanut butter drizzle. A must!
I also loved the Acai Bowl at The Restaurant. It was full of the freshest fruit!
Almond Hummus with Onion Ash, Fresh Black Truffle and Dry Fruit Bread at Muna Restaurant, one of the best Mediterranean restaurants I have ever experienced. It is absolutely gorgeous and the food is outstanding. We ate many original items for this meal but the one that really was unique and incredible was this Almond Hummus.
Nobu Los Cabos Restaurant Omakase Tasting Experience.
Now onto the biggest treat of the trip. Ok, you can not go to Nobu and not go to the Nobu Los Cabos Restaurant. The setting is gorgeous. When we sat down, I knew I was in store for one of the best dining experiences ever. We had to get the 8-Course Tasting Menu, which showcased all their best dishes, two of which were the Rock Shrimp Tempora and the Black Cod Miso. It was just so extraordinary, and we left with bellies stuffed! If it wasn’t perfect enough, our meal finished with fireworks, I believe, from one of the weddings happening at Nobu that night.
Staying Active
Lastly, for those who are looking for more than food there are a few other things you can do at Nobu Hotel Los Cabos. Though, it really did not feel like a place you would go for activities. My sister and I did some time at the spa where we had their hydrotherapy garden experience which features a water circuit, experience shower, cabana jacuzzi, outdoor shower, steam and sauna areas, and a hydrotherapy pool and then followed by a massage. The spa is very clean and nice. The massage was wonderful.
The gym at Nobu Hotel Los Cabos is awesome and we went every morning! There are lots of options to burn some calories with all the food you will be consuming. There is also a pickleball court if you are into that!
Please Don't Make Me Go Home!
The resort is very high-end, luxurious, and honestly expensive. It is not someplace I personally would not go with my kids (though they are foodies, it would be costly to feed a teenage boy there!). I don't think it has enough to entertain them. I would splurge on it for a milestone birthday with girlfriends (or your sister) or a trip with a significant other.
Overall we had an incredible time at Nobu Hotel Los Cabos and made some fun (and delicious) memories we will cherish forever! Even if you can't make it to Mexico I recommend trying to make the effort to get some time away with a sibling. It is fun to see who remembers what from your youth and reminiscence!
